Mother the mother.
So much care and attention is given to preparing for a baby. There are birth plans, nursery setups, registries, and pediatricians lined up well before delivery day.
What is often missing from the conversation is care for the mother.
Birthing people carry, grow, and deliver babies through their bodies, yet many are expected to move through pregnancy and postpartum without meaningful physical support. Discomfort, leaking, pressure, and weakness are often brushed off as “normal” parts of motherhood. While these experiences may be common, they are not something people simply have to accept.
Pelvic floor therapy is one of the most supportive forms of care I have experienced during pregnancy and postpartum. It is also why I so often recommend it to other mothers.
I chose pelvic floor therapy as a way to care for my body through pregnancy and beyond. I did not start because something felt “wrong,” but because I wanted to feel strong, supported, and informed in a season where so much attention naturally shifts to the baby.
What I found was care that centered me. A provider who specializes in this area of medicine and supported me. My body, my experience, and my recovery mattered. That alone felt powerful.
