When planning a newborn outfit photoshoot, I always recommend pieces that are soft, timeless, and photograph beautifully. These are my top choices because they check all the boxes: neutral colors that let your family’s connection and features shine, cozy fabrics that keep everyone comfortable, and styles that I’ve seen work beautifully time and time again during sessions.
Here are my newborn outfit photoshoot go-to picks:
FOR BABY
1. White onesie from Burts Bees.
Normally I suggest staying away from pure white for photo sessions, but there is just something so sweet about a little tiny baby in a white onesie.
2. Kimono onesie from Quincy Mae & Pointelle Knit Kimono Romper from Pehr.
These kimono style outfits can be really helpful for dressing fresh newborn babies who like to stay all snuggled in tight. The snaps make it easier to put on.
PROPS AND ADDED TEXTURE
Organic cotton muslin is easy on baby skin and a gorgeous texture on camera.
The texture of this blanket is so perfect for family and newborn photos; soft + cozy. Any of these desaturated tones would be a beautiful addition to your backdrop.
FOR PARENTS
5. This dress.
Stretchy, breathable and postpartum friendly: win, win, win.
If you’re wanting the jeans and sweater look, choose maternity jeans. Please give your body a break as it recovers and don’t try to squeeze into your pre-pregnancy jeans.
7. This top.
I recommend a sweater or top that is light weight because most postpartum bodies runner warmer (and sweaty) in the first few months.
A top that is a bit nicer material with buttons can dress up a masculine outfit to look more in line next to a dress.
